The area between Bad Mitterndorf and Obersdorf is part of the Mitterndorf basin. This region is marked by a fascinating landscape offering terrific contrasts and many different geologic forms. Because of its location it used to be an important passage in ancient times. The existence of salt and ore contributed to the development of the area.

The Obersdorf Trail leads through the area between Bad Mitterndorf and Obersdorf. Numerous stations tell of the peculiarities of the region. The route follows a well-marked and groomed trail; no major differences in altitude have to be conquered. Its total length is approx. 10km; the maximum difference in altitude is less than 100m.
