The R 61 Cycling Trail

The R61 cycling trail (Styrian cycling network) is also referred to as Salzkammergut cycling trail.

The 47km-long trail leads from Schloss Trautenfels castle (Ennstal valley) through a paradise-like landscape to Blaa-Alm pasture in Altaussee. Already at the start one has a view of the village of Pürgg. Visiting it is worthwhile.

The cycling trail continues to Klachau-Tauplitz, passes in the foothills of the Kulm ski jumping site and leads to Bad Mitterndorf. Far from main traffic routes the trail continues even through the “Laasen” moor area and to Pichl-Kainisch. It continues on side roads past Radlingpass to Grundlsee and from there via Obertressen to Altausee and to Blaa-Alm pasture.

One gets to Bad Aussee, the geographic centre of Austria, if cycling downhill from Radlingpass or takes a turn before Grundlsee and follows Grundlsee-Traun river. Another option is to get there from Altaussee, following Altausseer-Traun river. Some of the Traun trails are cycling trails.

If you’ve still not had enough you can continue from Blaa Alm pasture to Bad Ischl.
