Starting point: Bad Aussee post office
Starting from the post office you follow Ischlerstraße road to Altaussee and the salt mine. Watch out for the “Salzbergwerk” signposts and follow the asphalt road for about 2.5km (varying degree of incline).
At Steinberghaus hut the trail continues uphill, after about 1km you have reached the highest spot of the route. From there you ride downhill on a forestry trail through pastures and forests. After about 10 minutes you get to Waldgraben pasture, where the popular Sarsteinblick guesthouse is located.
Continue for 1km to the Leisling junction (right hand side). The forestry trail continues to St. Agatha, where it meets the Salzkammergut cycling trail. Follow this trail to Bad Goisern and Lauffen.
Cross Traun river at the train station and continue on Engleitenstraße road (little traffic) to Bad Ischl. Town centre – Steinfeldstraße road, direction Rettenback – cross Rettenbach brook and continue to Rettenbachmühle guesthouse. Follow the gravel road through Rettenbachtal valley, 8km of slightly ascending trail; 6km to Rettenbachalm pasture.
Follow the forestry trail through Rettenbachalm pasture, pass the old Solestube hut, follow Rettenbach brook in direction Blaa Alm pasture. Some ascents can be easily conquered by trained riders. Most of the trail is slightly ascending.
It is recommended to push your bike through the 100m-long tunnel, as scattered stones can cause crashes. Just before the pasture is the steepest slope (Blaa-Alm-Bühel). It can be conquered in about 45 minutes.
From Blaa-Alm pasture a gravel road starts and leads into an alphalt road at the toll hut. The roads leads to Altausee and Bad Aussee.
